About Notes of Grace Piano Studio

LORI LATCH, TEACHER

Music is my gift and passion! Starting with organ and piano lessons at age 8, I was a piano accompanist for my middle and high school concert-level choirs, and also sang in the choirs, as well as in an Elizabethan Madrigal troupe. And Music Theory class was great fun! Throughout high school, I was a paid church organist. In college, I majored in Elementary Ed with a minor in Music. I've loved teaching a Montessori-based music class for young children and their parents, singing in my church choir, and of course, teaching piano!

WHY MUSIC LESSONS?

I believe music is essential for the human experience. Learning music is necessary for thorough development of the whole brain. Scientific studies show that learning a musical instrument stimulates neural pathways in the brain (including new channels between the left and right sides of the brain) that are associated with higher forms of intelligence, such as abstract and analytical thinking, math, and science. Learning music also benefits children in other areas; it helps establish good listening skills and empathy, which in turn enable higher achievement in school and in social situations. In addition, learning music gives us satisfaction, self-worth, and a life companion.

SHARING MY PASSION

I am dedicated to giving my students high-quality, individualized, and FUN piano lessons. As a lifelong music enthusiast, I have loved teaching music to students one-on-one and in small groups. My teaching style combines classic techniques and contemporary, creative and organic methods. Music lessons should be FUN!
I want my students to come to lessons because they love it, so I teach and relate in a way that will be enjoyable for them, including games and activities that enhance learning of all aspects of music.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

I am constantly learning, too! I listen to podcasts, watch videos, attend webinars, and read publications about piano teaching in order to be as educated as possible in my craft. I have subscribed to a creative piano teaching website filled with a huge library of relevant resources to help make my lessons more interesting for my students. My professional development and growth are important to me. I love how I can create more value for my students by learning more myself and putting what I've learned into action in their lessons.
